Membership

Membership in the Alabama State Militia Artillery Battery is open to nearly all who are interested. Yearly dues are set by the membership; current dues are $12/year per member. All funding for the Battery's expenses, such as powder, primers, paint, stamps, upkeep of equipment, etc., comes from the members' dues, donations and fund raising activities. A monthly newsletter is sent to each member, providing event listings, synopses of recent events, and articles of interest regarding Civil War history and artillery. We are a relatively new unit in Alabama, and try to progressively portray the life of the Confederate and Union private. We are not interested in recruiting individuals simply for the sake of making our unit larger. Rather, our interest is in recruiting quality reenactors and living historians who are willing to be as authentic as possible in re-creating Civil War life. All we ask of our members is that they should:

1.) Be at least 18 years old, or 16 with parent or guardian-- note: most events require individuals be at least 16 to work on a cannon.

2.) Be in relatively good physical condition-- should be physically able to handle the reenactment drill, authentic camping, marching and battles.

3.) Try to adhere to the concept of authentic campaigning as designated by ASMA guidelines.

4.) Provide their own uniform and accoutrements within one year.
